Youth Programs
When Teamlink was conceived in 1991, (during the first Desert Shield/Storm) the whole idea was to impact the future in a positive way through working with youth. And since most of the young people we wanted to work with were those who could least afford it, well, that’s how our corporate programs came into existence… as a way to pay the bills while we followed our calling.
And while our corporate programs have grown to take on a very successful life of their own, our programs for youth are still our true calling. The basis for all of our development programs is the concept that people should always be learning and open to taking risks (for a meaningful and worthwhile future result). In our work with youth, we nurture this approach… encouraging positive interactions regardless of the situation. As a result, our company has been recognized as a “Vision of Character”, not only for the way which we conduct our business, but for the way we promote and model the “Six Pillars of Character” of the “Character Counts” program.
The list of our youth programming activities is exhaustive.. of note are:We work extensively in Frederick County (MD) Schools, (partnering with the YMCA) in both the 21st Century After School Opportunities Program and the Community Learning Centers, providing both T1 and T2 programming.
We provide high adventure and character development programming for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, YMCAs and faith-based youth groups.. (and, in fact, training and certifying boy scout leaders nationally in high adventure and outdoor skills).
We work with a wide variety of “at risk” youth through extensive summer and school year programming that includes wilderness travel, adventure and life skills. We have been recognized as providing “exemplary programming “ by the US Dept of Justice for our summertime youth programming.
We have repeatedly been selected as a services provider by local governments, youth organizations, schools and school systems throughout the MD, WV, VA and PA region as a company that provides superior value for the dollars expended. Our policy is do everything we can to ensure that youth are able to participate in our programs… and to not let money issues interfere with that.
We are regularly and frequently selected, as a training provider for youth leadership and future leader development programs, often partnering with organizations like Rotary International and Bechtel Engineering.
Beyond our youth leadership, and character development programming we also provide enrichment programming in environmental education and physical fitness throughout northwestern MD and western VA. Please refer to the Shenandoah Mountain Guides site for more information.
